We decided to try another company this time, and we managed to get a two-berth 2WD 'Premium' camper from Wicked Campers, notorious for it's offensive slogans. Luckily, our van was pristine with no profanities written on it, so we escaped any potential disapproving frowns from onlookers! We also went for the lowest excess package for peace of mind.
'Rory' (so named because of the noise she emitted on fast acceleration) was self-washed this time around and we had no need to buy any oil. Petrol prices were relatively constant compared to the north, and we weren't covering such vast distances this time.
We spent more time staying in National Parks than in the north, where fees rarely topped $10 per night. The rest of the nights were spent at caravan parks, which tended to sit around the $30 a night mark.
FOOD & DRINK $937
It's no wonder we spent so much in this category, given the South West's reputation for mouthwatering food and glorious wines. We had lunch at two wineries, dined at various restaurants and ate to our belly's content. We did, however, buy eight bottles of wine from the cellar doors, which amounted to around $200.
Our visit to the National Anzac Centre, the Margaret River Wine Tour and our four-cave pass form part of our activities budget. We also bought a Parks Pass, which costs $44 for entry into all of WA's National Parks for one month. The Fremantle Prison tours were brilliant, as was our Little Creatures Brewery tour!
