Welcome to my little corner of the internet!
One wintry evening in South London, my partner Matt and I decided to act upon our passion for travel and book a one-way flight to Australia. Nine months later, we embarked on a new adventure with limited budgets, loose plans and countless ideas.
We spent the next year backpacking across Australia, South East Asia, California and Latin America, landing back in the UK in August 2017. We now live and work in London, Rachel as a trainee solicitor and Matt as a recruitment company director. After travelling to these far-flung parts of the world, we're looking forward to exploring more of our home country and continent.
This blog includes honest reviews and practical advice to help you maximise your time and money, and I hope that it will inspire you to make your own journey across land and sea!
A three-week trip to Ghana in my first year of university sparked my love of travel. I relaxed on the Cape Coast, experienced daily life in Kumasi and saw wild elephants at Mole National Park - it was incredible. After finishing my studies and deferring my start date at my new job by one year, I took the opportunity to explore the world and create Across Land & Sea.
We met whilst studying at Loughborough University and moved to London on graduation, which found us going to the theatre at least once a week and starting ballroom dance classes! After living and working in the capital for two years, we jumped at the chance to take a year off. We're now back in the UK, living in South East London and gathering a hefty collection of houseplants.
My Grandma has travelled extensively - Komodo, Georgia, even North Korea - and she is my travel inspiration. Before university, I completed a ski season in France and travelled to Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Quitting my job in London to join Rachel on a year out was a no-brainer.
We have lots planned for 2018 and beyond.
